The process design of the most popular books and p

  • Detail

At present, with the technological progress of printing enterprises, the overall level of book printing quality has been greatly improved, and some products have reached a higher quality level. However, in the process of inspection and identification of a large number of books and periodicals, which is not the most effective, it is found that some products do not have standard graphic process design, which leads to problems in product quality and affects the improvement of the overall quality level of books and periodicals

the process design of books and periodicals described here is not standardized (unreasonable), including the process design of the publishing department and the process design of the printing plant (the second process design)

the author learned from participating in the inspection and identification of high-quality products (first-class products) of books and periodicals issued by the publication administration that among a large number of failed products, the problem of nonstandard graphic process design is more prominent, which greatly reduces the rate of high-quality products. Taking the failed products sent by the army for testing as an example, there were 728 varieties of products submitted for testing in 2000, and 195 varieties of failed products (preliminarily determined). Among the rejected products, the non-standard graphic process design accounted for a considerable proportion, reaching 46.15% (including the non-standard forming process)

common problems of nonstandard process design of books and periodicals include:

1. The design position of book and periodicals' edition center is not unified, resulting in nonstandard size of cut, set mouth, crown, foot, and white edge outside the edition center, resulting in individual page numbers, book eyebrows, and Book eyebrow lines being cut off, resulting in product quality problems

2. The size of the stitching and incision of the color illustration page is too small (less than 2mm), or there is no stitching position left. When binding the book, the illustrations are bound within the stitching, which seriously affects the reading and use

3. The design of the distance between the explanatory text and the edge of the figure is unreasonable. Some are too close (less than 2mm) and some are too far (about 7-8mm), which affects the tidiness of the explanatory text. If the horizontal drawing process is adopted, when the explanatory text is too close to the edge of the drawing (less than 3 mm), it is easy to pad up during printing, resulting in false flowers on the edge of the drawing and incomplete edges. 2. The negative deviation of the indication exceeds the tolerance

4. The text on the front cover, the second cover, the third cover, the fourth cover and the illustrations are too close (only 1-2mm) to the cut (or set mouth). This design is not only difficult to see, but may even be cut off, seriously affecting the quality and beauty of the finished products

5. The design of "uniform color" of cover and four covers does not conform to the actual thickness of the book. After binding into a book, the "uniform color" is uneven, and some of them go in and out more than 2-4mm, which directly affects the aesthetic effect of the overall design of the book

6. The color of the flat background used in the masthead and headflower of the same book varies greatly, which directly affects the decorative effect and product quality of the book

7. The flat bottom color of the reverse white embossing inscription design is too light (the dot area is less than 40%), and it is easy to mix with the text after printing, which is difficult to distinguish and affects reading

8. The design of black (all kinds of dark) embossed inscriptions has too deep flat bottom color (more than 60% of the dot area). After printing, the characters and the bottom color are easy to mix into one color, affecting reading

9. The setting of the field background color in the text is unreasonable (the dot area is 100%), and the background color of the printed product must be uneven, which is easy to be printed through, roughened and dirty

10. The white pen of the hollow words in the titles of books and periodicals is too thin to reproduce after printing, which will inevitably lose its due artistic effect

the above-mentioned quality problems of books and periodicals are mainly caused by the non-standard handling of graphic process design and printing plant business director (production scheduling). Therefore, the process design should be standardized according to the specific conditions (printability) and possible process capabilities in the production and printing of

, so as to further improve the overall level of personalized product production and printing required by customers. The specific methods are as follows:

1. The position of the center of the edition shall be unified (except for special requirements), so as to ensure that the size of the cut, the size of the binding, the size of the head and the foot, and the size of the white edge outside the center of the edition are neat and uniform. When the size of the layout center is fixed, it shall not be changed at will in the composition (assembly) to ensure the correct process design

2. If there are no special requirements for the stitching (white paper edge) of the illustration page, 12mm shall be reserved, and 3mm shall be reserved for the incision

3. The distance between the explanatory text and the edge of the illustrations in the text of books and periodicals shall be 3-5mm. The description text of the vertical layout shall be the same distance from the drawing edge (left, right, up and down), and shall not exceed the width of the drawing. If the number of words in the description is large, it can be arranged into two lines, three lines... And the line spacing and the spacing with the text shall be consistent

4. The distance between the text on the front cover, the second cover, the third cover, the fourth cover and the illustrations and the notch shall be 5mm to avoid errors and cutting off when binding into a volume

5. The "uniform color" of the cover and back cover design (different colors of the cover and spine, and the back cover and spine) shall be consistent with the thickness of the book, so as to prevent the "uneven color" after binding into a book, which will affect the appearance of the book

6. The same percentage of items shall be used as the background color for the masthead and head flower of the same volume to prevent the disadvantage of great difference in depth. 100-120 thread mesh can be selected for book printing, and 150-170 thread mesh can be selected for coating paper

7. The area of points lined with black (dark) embossed inscriptions should be controlled within 20% - 30%, which can not only play a good decorative effect, but also facilitate the clear display of the text

8. The plane used for the inscription of the negative white pressing drawing shall have a dot area of more than 60% to ensure the clarity of the text

9. The decorative background of the front cover, the second cover, the third cover, the fourth cover and the illustrations shall be flat without transparent printing. If there are no special requirements for the field background color, the thick line of about 80% of the area point can be selected to replace the field background color. This treatment can not only keep the background color flat and impervious to printing, but also play an important role in preventing sticking, squatting, pulling paper wool and piling ink

10. When hollow words are used in the titles of books and periodicals, the white strokes of the hollow words should be widened to prevent the white strokes from being stuck during printing and affecting the reading
